Clodagh Higginson is taking a sabbatical to work for the Lib Dem leader.

One of the co-founders of London PR and public affairs firm Higginson Strategy is taking a sabbatical to be Vince Cable’s press secretary.

PAN has learned that Clodagh Higginson is set to take up the full-time role with the Liberal Democrat leader immediately.

The former political correspondent is expected to remain in place for a matter of months as Cable prepares to bow out as party leader. Last year, he said he would stand down as "once Brexit is resolved or stopped".

Higginson Strategy was set up in 2016 by Clodagh Higginson and fellow former lobby journalist John Higginson.

Clodagh Higginson is a former political Correspondent for ITV’s Good Morning Britain and Whitehall editor of The Sun. Previously known as Clodagh Hartley, she is credited with obtaining the Hutton Report in advance of its publication in 2004 – even though the Sun’s story carried the byline of the paper’s then political editor, Trevor Kavanagh.

John Higginson is a former political editor of The Metro who went on to become a consultant at Westbourne Communications and Insight Consulting Group.

PAN revealed in 2018 that Cable’s last press secretary Mark Leftly was leaving to join financial PR firm Powerscourt.
