Jake Sumner effectively replaces Luke Pollard, who is now a Labour MP.

Labour adviser Jake Sumner has joined Field Consulting after four years working for the former shadow business secretary Chuka Umunna.

Sumner was chief political adviser to the Labour MP from 2011 to 2015 under Ed Miliband’s leadership.

He has joined Field Consulting as a director, effectively replacing Luke Pollard who left the agency in the summer after getting elected as Labour MP for Plymouth Sutton and Devonport.

Sumner is the most senior of four new hires at Field. The agency was set up in 2014 by former Edelman director Chris Rumfitt. Present clients of Field include Berkeley Homes, Capital Counties Properties, Govia Thameslink Railway, Rail Supply Group, High Speed Rail Industry Leaders and Velocys.

Before working for Umunna, Sumner was senior adviser to previous shadow business secretary John Denham and he worked at Transport for London, leading the funding campaign and communications strategy for Crossrail. More recently, Sumner has been an associate director at the ResPublica think tank.

Rumfitt said: "Jake has extensive experience of working at the highest level within the Labour Party. Added to his unique expertise in the industrial strategy policy sphere, he represents a real talent our clients can now benefit from."
