The National Housing Federation has appointed Teresa Richardson as its new assistant director of campaigns and communications. She will join in early October from a head of comms role at family law association Resolution.
Molson Coors – the brewing giant behind brands including Carling, Grolsch, Doom Bar and Caffrey’s – has appointed Katie Mackie to the newly created role of Scottish comms and legislation manager. Mackie was formerly public affairs adviser at the Scottish Grocers’ Federation, where she worked for more than three years. She started her new role in August and is responsible for comms and public affairs in Scotland. The Scottish Grocers’ Federation has been recruiting to replace her.
Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy public affairs and press officer Chloe Forbes – one of four shortlisted nominees for the ‘Rising Star – Individual (In-House)’ award at this year’s Public Affairs News Awards – has moved to Ipsos Mori. She started last month as senior public affairs and comms exec.
Sense has hired John Dickinson-Lilley as deputy head of public policy. He was previously public affairs manager at the National Autistic Society, which has recruited Debbie Moss as his successor. She starts on 12 September, moving from Parkinson's UK.
The Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) has appointed Sarah Buckley as public affairs manager for UK and international issues. Previously in a solely international public affairs role at ICAEW, Buckley will be succeeded in her former position by Joel Spreadborough, who moves from the Association of British Insurers (ABI). The ICAEW recently lost public affairs manager Tom Frackowiak to Cicero Consulting (PAN online, 2 Jun).
The British Chambers of Commerce has named John Longworth as its new director-general, succeeding David Frost CBE, who has run the business lobby group since 2003. Longworth had only recently joined an advisory panel at Fishburn Hedges (PAN, Aug), a role he has now relinquished.
Dan Large has joined Westbourne Communications, becoming campaign director for its client the Campaign for High-Speed Rail. He was formerly top aide to Conservative MP Edward Timpson MP, first working with him on his high-profile Crewe & Nantwich by-election victory in 2008.
The agency Portcullis Public Affairs has hired James Worron, formerly at Open Road, as an account director. The agency has also recruited Chris Mockler as senior counsel (health/pharma) and William Davis as an account exec. Separately, Tim Coates – who joined from Citigate Dewe Rogerson Public Policy last year (PAN, June 2010) – has gone part-time as he studies to become an economist.
The agency Westminster Advisers has recruited Jon Harrison as a senior account executive, working for healthcare clients. Harrison was previously policy adviser (health) at the Parliamentary Resources Unit, where he spent three years.
Supermarket chain Tesco has recruited Victoria Gould as government affairs manager and Tom Curry for the new role of UK comms director. Gould is moving from a role as head of events and visits for ex-PM Tony Blair (PAN, July 07). Curry is moving from the position of head of media at the Olympic Delivery Authority.
Aberdeen-headquartered oil-and-gas firm Dana Petroleum has recruited Andrew McCallum in the new job of group director of comms and external affairs. He is due to start in November, moving from a role as director of comms and external affairs at Gatwick Airport, which is recruiting to replace him. McCallum will be based in Aberdeen and will have responsibility for public affairs.
Liverpool-based NAAPS (the National Association of Adult Placement Schemes) has hired Tris Brown as communications and engagement officer.
The agency Bellenden has recruited two planning comms specialists: James Sachon as an account director and George Saliagopoulos as an account executive. The former was previously at Redwood Consulting and the latter was at Curtin & Co.
OPITO, an oil-and-gas industry funded body focusing on skills and workforce development, has appointed Rona Macdonald as policy affairs manager. Macdonald was formerly government relations manager at Oil & Gas UK, before which she worked in government relations for BT. OPITO’s policy affairs director remains Gillian Black.
Weber Shandwick has recruited government lawyer Ruth McEwen as an associate director. She has more than a decade’s experience working for the Department of Health. Before joining the Government Legal Service, McEwen worked as a criminal barrister.
Simon Walker has been appointed as director-general of the Institute of Directors, succeeding Miles Templeman, whose seven-year term expires at the end of this month. Walker, who starts on 3 October, was most recently chief executive of the British Private Equity and Venture Capital Association.
Nationwide Building Society has hired Harpal Hungin as policy and public affairs officer. He has formerly worked for EMF – the Social Justice Foundation, and Network Rail.
