The Publishers’ Association is hunting a new head of policy and comms as Benjamin King joins News Corporation as PA manager in early June.
The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation has hired Laura Vallance to the new position of head of PA and campaigns. She moves from a public affairs role at the Kennel Club.
The World Society for the Protection of Animals has appointed Simon Pope to the new role of head of external affairs (UK), starting on 10 May. He is currently comms director at Spana (the Society for the Protection of Animals Abroad), which is recruiting a replacement.
The Whitehouse Consultancy has appointed Emma Carr as a senior consultant and Carl Thomson as a consultant. Carr has formerly worked at the British Thoracic Society, the Commission for Social Care Inspection and Bupa. Thomson, the Tories’ parliamentary candidate in Glasgow East in 2005, is a former aide to senior Tory MPs John Redwood and Theresa May.
Lexington Communications has hired three new recruits: senior consultants Emma Shepherd and Owen Bethell, plus researcher Emer Harrington. Respectively, they were formerly at Weber Shandwick, Mandate Communications and the NHS Confederation.
Mark Goodwin is now director of external affairs at RICS, covering Gillian Charlesworth’s interim appointment as director of comms (PAN, Mar). Goodwin has been at RICS for 28 years.
Ian Hagg started at Findus Group on 7 April in the new role of CSR director. He was formerly an associate director at Luther Pendragon (LP). LP has also recently lost director Chris Springham, who has joined wind-turbine blade-maker LM Glasfiber as V-P of global comms.
The Bar Council has appointed Toby Craig as its first head of comms, reporting to director of representation and policy, Mark Hatcher. He is ex-Linklaters and Weber Shandwick, the Bar Council’s PR adviser.
Bell Pottinger Public Affairs (BPPA) has hired Steve Summers as an account director in its local government and planning team. He has been a Tory member of Westminster City Council since 2006. Before joining BPPA he resigned from its planning applications sub-committee, which he chaired.
Youth Sport Trust is recruiting for a new policy and comms director to replace Mark Atkinson, who – as revealed online (7 April) – is joining TreeHouse, the national charity for autism education, as director of comms, policy and research.
