American Express has hired Richard Lomas as manager of international government affairs, reporting to director of international government affairs, David Courtnage. Lomas joins from the British Private Equity and Venture Capital Association (BVCA), which he joined from AS Biss & Co (now Mandate Communications).
Rachel Knight is joining the Medical Protection Society as communications manager, starting on 7 June. She was previously acting assistant director of external relations at the General Dental Council, which has also lost stakeholder relations manager Tom Thorpe after less than a year (PAN, Aug 09).
Portcullis Public Affairs has unveiled a couple of recruits: account director Camilla Horwood and account manager Tim Coates. Most recently at the Whitehouse Consultancy, Horwood has also formerly worked for Grayling, DLA Piper and Wyeth. Coates was previously a senior account executive at Citigate Dewe Rogerson Public Policy (CDRPP). Before CDRPP he worked in the Commons for Tory leader, now PM, David Cameron.
Barclays has hired Tom Burton as a public policy manager, moving from Citigate Dewe Rogerson Public Policy, where he was a senior account executive.
Insight Public Affairs account manager Jen Pufky is to join Age UK as public affairs adviser for stakeholders. She starts on 9 June.
Hazel Cheeseman has started as policy and PA manager at homelessness charity St Mungo’s. Formerly senior policy and campaigns officer for Action on Smoking & Health (ASH), the 28-year-old replaces Jessica Studdert, who is now working for the Labour Group at the Local Government Association.
Medical devices company ConvaTec has named 17-year company stalwart Ameer Ally as director for government affairs and reimbursement across EMEA, the UK & Ireland. Ally was formerly in the same role but without the UK & Ireland responsibilities. ConvaTec’s former UK-based associate director of government affairs, Paul Saunders, left last year to join the agency Hanover (PAN, Sep 09).
Children’s Hospices UK has completed its search for a director of external affairs (PAN, Mar), appointing Andrew Fletcher to the role. He starts on 28 June, moving from the role of joint-CEO at the National Childminding Association.
The Combined Heat and Power Association has appointed Dr Tim Rotheray as policy manager. He was formerly at JDS Associates/the Micropower Council.
The National Association of Pension Funds has appointed Paul Platt as head of media and PR. He starts this month, moving from a senior press officer role at the CBI, where he has worked for almost four years.
Stephanie Lvovich, APCO Worldwide’s London-based global food and consumer products practice leader, has been appointed executive director across EMEA at the agency. She continues to also hold her former role.
Ofcom has promoted Clayton Hirst to the role of director of communications. The former journalist replaces Julian Eccles, now director of marketing and communications at the Football Association.
