Andy Sawford – the chief executive of the Local Government Information Unit (LGiU) – will be battling to win Corby & East Northamptonshire.
Sawford, son of former Kettering Labour MP Phil Sawford, joined the LGiU three-and-a-half years ago from Connect Public Affairs (now Connect Communications) (PAN, Feb 08).
Others gunning to win the selection included constituency Labour Party chairman Kevin McKeever, who joined Bell Pottinger Public Affairs this year (PAN online, 5 May).
The selection came after former Labour MP Phil Hope, who represented the area for 13 years, announced that he would not stand again after losing to Conservative MP Louise Mensch at last year’s general election.
