Interel Consulting has signed up a heavyweight European Union official who was at the forefront of Brussels’ response to the financial crisis.
The international consulting group has hired EU director general of internal markets and services Jörgen Holmquist as a strategic adviser.
The senior official recently resigned his EU post to pave the way for him to join Interel in its Brussels HQ. In line with European Commission staff regulations he will not lobby on behalf of any of Interel’s clients.
As EU director general of internal markets and services, Holmquist oversaw the development of new legislation covering bank capital, derivatives, credit-rating agencies and investment funds.
His CV spans a range of other top level EU posts including director general of fisheries and maritime affairs, deputy director general of budget and director in the directorate general for agriculture.
Interel Group CEO Fredrik Lofthagen said: “This appointment demonstrates our commitment to delivering the very best strategic advice.”
