Hall – who joined Public Affairs News in 2007 from Haymarket title PR Week, where he spent six-and-a-half years – is due to start at EurActiv after this month’s Public Affairs News Awards.
EurActiv is a UK plc with a large Brussels network office, and affiliates in 15 other countries. After two months in Brussels, Hall will build EurActiv’s presence in London, initially co-locating with a prestigious organisation to be selected.
Christophe Leclercq, the online media network’s founder, said: “Given Ian’s knowledge of the public affairs sector, I am glad he will still be able to apply his industry insights via a different capacity in a media context.”
He added: “As an avid reader of PA News, I like how it bridges London and Brussels, and I wish the publication well.”
During Hall’s time at PAN, the magazine has relaunched with columnists and opinion pages, amplified its news coverage, transformed its online and social-media presence and significantly grown its awards. Hall was shortlisted at the prestigious British Society of Magazine Editors (BSME) Awards in 2010. He said: “I can’t think of a better job in trade journalism than covering the lobbying industry and have had a fantastic time. But it is now time for a new challenge, involving both London and Brussels, while remaining within the media and PA.”
Public Affairs News’s commercial publisher, Phil Eisenhart, said: “Since Ian arrived at Dods, Public Affairs Newshas firmly established itself in the psyche of PA professionals, both in-house and consultancy. They read it for its incisiveness and comprehensive coverage. How we replace a man who has single-handedly achieved so much I am not sure! I wish Ian all the best with EurActiv and look forward to working with him again.”
