Betfair has handed responsibility for its public affairs to its company secretary and legal director, Martin Cruddace, after the exit of group director of external affairs Mark Davies.
Davies has departed the online betting giant after just over 10 years to set up a consultancy called Camberton, which will offer public affairs and PR advice.
Betfair’s chief executive, David Yu, said in a statement that Betfair “looked forward to working with Mark in his new venture”.
Yu’s statement said: “Mark has been with the company since it was little more than an idea, and has helped it grow to the largest online sports betting business. As our ‘voice’ in the market he has contributed so much to our distinctive positioning. Over the last decade, Mark has become recognised around the world for his eloquence and authority in debating issues of integrity in sport, the benefits of well-regulated gaming for all sports, and above all, a fair deal for punters. We are grateful for all Mark has done for Betfair and look forward to his continued counsel. We wish him the very best of luck in his next adventure.”
Betfair told PAN that a replacement was not being sought for Davies and that Cruddace had assumed charge of public affairs.
Davies is also now blogging regularly on his own website, entitled ‘A view from Barnes village’.
