Matthew Davies joined the body – whose 45 members provide liquidity to UK businesses – a fortnight ago from the government and infrastructure practice of law firm Bircham Dyson Bell, where he advised clients on public affairs and government relations.
He previously spent seven years in law firm DLA Piper’s Global Government Relations practice, during which time he was an adviser to ABFA (which was then known as the Factors & Discounters Association).
Kate Sharp, chief exec of ABFA – which has seven staff and is based in Richmond upon Thames, Surrey – said: “Matthew’s background working with the association itself and his experience advising a range of organisations on finance, SME and insolvency policy issues means he is very well placed to develop our government affairs capability further.
Davies said: “It’s a hugely important and exciting time for the industry, with access to finance one of the most significant issues facing the UK economy and government. The industry represented by the ABFA has a wealth of experience and insight to contribute to policymaking and this role is about helping them do so as effectively as possible.”
