Hugill succeeds Tom Bloxham, the five-year-old think-tank’s founding chair, with effect from this month. Carter, meanwhile, is joining in mid-July from a role as a board director of a 20-strong economic and social consultancy called Rocket Science.
Hugill is executive chair of property firm Urban & Civic and ex-chair of Lend Lease Europe.
Centre for Cities is currently recruiting for a new chief executive to replace Dermot Finch, who has been appointed head of public affairs at the well-known public relations/public affairs agency Fishburn Hedges, starting next month (PAN online, 19 May).
Bloxham said: “After five years Dermot has decided to move on and I thought it an appropriate time to step down so the new chair can lead on the recruitment of his successor. I’m sure they will continue to excel in driving cities up the political agenda – over the next five years and beyond.”
