Communications Officer

The Credit Hire Organisation (CHO) is a trade body established in May 2010 from a merger of the Accident Management Association (AMA) and the National Association of Credit Hire Operators, which now unites the industry. The CHO provides services to credit hire companies by helping to establish a favourable operating environment, by providing: a forum for discussion on non-competitive issues; and, information to assist them in their business.

Following the recent appointment of new Director General (“DG”) and a public affairs and public relations agency, the CHO is seeking to expand their internal team with the appointment of a part-time Communications Officer to provide public affairs, media and general administrative support.  Recent issues that are at the forefront of The CHO’s agenda include a live OFT investigation into credit hire and the Transport Committee’s report into the reasons for the recent rise in insurance premiums.

The role covers:

  • Maintenance of social media platforms, including the website and Twitter account
  • Liaison with the DG and PA/PR agency on various projects and activities as part of the 2012 communications strategy
  • Supporting the elite stakeholder engagement programme, including attendance at meetings with Government officials and Parliamentarians
  • Assistance with the management of events and meetings
  • Building good relationships with stakeholders within the industry and externally
  • Develop and co-ordinate internal communications with CHO members
  • Assist in development of additional income streams

The ideal candidate:

  • Proven experience in media and communications, likely to have been gained either in-house or a PR agency
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills
  • Possess a proven ability to deal effectively with individuals at all levels, including journalists, Parliamentarians and senior civil servants
  • An understanding of UK Parliamentary procedure would be beneficial
  • A background in either credit hire or insurance is highly desirable

*This position will be largely virtual, requiring the successful candidate to work from home.

Interviews will take place in London in February, 2012.
