EUROPEAN CONSULTANCY OF THE YEAR (J)
The European Consultancy of the Year must be able to provide evidence showing a clear record of achievement on behalf of their clients in the EU. It must highlight its success in winning new business and in running successful campaigns and programmes, as well as demonstrate general client satisfaction. The European Consultancy of the Year should also be able to demonstrate creativity and innovation, and show how it has helped raise the standard of the EU public affairs industry through the personal development of staff.
The criteria for judging:
- General client satisfaction 20%
- Winning new business 20%
- Successful campaigns/programmes 20%
- Creativity and innovation 20%
- Personal development of staff 20%
EUROPEAN CONSULTANT OF THE YEAR (J)
Can demonstrate a high level of achievement in their work on behalf of a single or multiple clients within Europe. It is important to demonstrate how their activity has met or surpassed the clients’ business ambitions and how this has been achieved and measured.
The criteria for judging:
- Excellent client handling skills 40%
- Demonstrated significant contribution to the company 30%
- Team player 10%
- Demonstrated professional development over the last 12 months 10%
- Promoted the professional status of political consultancy 10%

EUROPEAN IN-HOUSE PROFESSIONAL OF THE YEAR (J)
Can demonstrate a high level of achievement in their work on behalf of their organisation in Europe. It is important to demonstrate how their activity has met or surpassed the business ambitions, and how this has been achieved and measured.
The criteria for judging:
- Demonstrated significant contribution to organisation 40%
- Successful campaign initiative 40%
- Demonstrated how they work effectively within their public affairs/corporate comms team 10%
- Demonstrated professional development over the last 12 months 10%

NEWCOMER OF THE YEAR (J)
The Newcomer of the Year must be new to the world of public affairs (employed within the last two years) and be able to demonstrate how their individual contribution has made a difference to company success and client performance. The Newcomer of the Year should be able to show career progression and development.
The criteria for judging:
- Excellent client handling skills 30%
- Demonstrated significant contribution to the company 30%
- Team player 20%
- Demonstrated professional development over last 12 months 20%
NEW CONSULTANCY OF THE YEAR (J)

The New Consultancy of the Year must have begun trading in the period since 1st January 2007. The consultancy must show evidence of early achievement, growth and innovation in either the UK or European public affairs marketplace. The new consultancy must also demonstrate its plans for further growth, development and innovation.
The criteria for judging:
- Demonstration of achievement 30%
- Innovation, development and planning 30%
- General client satisfaction 20%
- Evidence of new business and general growth 20%

POLITICIAN OF THE YEAR (V)
Can demonstrate a clear record during the year in promoting a cause or issue and having achieved a level of change or interest in the subject worthy of commendation.
The criteria for judging:
- Demonstrated the political and policy understanding of a certain policy sector 30%
- Highlight a successful campaign/initiative 60%
- Demonstrated good understanding of the public affairs industry 10%
POLITICAL JOURNALIST OF THE YEAR (V)
Can be seen to have been influential with their journalism during the year and to have become a ‘must read’, ‘must watch’ or ‘must listen to’ for those working within the public affairs community.
The criteria for judging:
- Demonstrate how their work is a ‘must read watch/listen to’ for the public affairs community 80%
- Demonstrate an excellent understanding of the workings of the political system 20%
VOLUNTARY SECTOR PUBLIC AFFAIRS CAMPAIGN OF THE YEAR (V)
Open to consultancies, individual organisations and trade bodies, the Voluntary Sector Public Affairs Campaign of the Year will demonstrate achievement, innovation and the professional and successful implementation of a bespoke voluntary sector public affairs campaign launched in the last two years. The nomination must show how the campaign achieved its desired policy objective within the initial timeframe.
The criteria for judging:
- Demonstrate success of a campaign against its initial objectives 50%
- Show innovation and professionalism in implementing the campaign 50%
PUBLIC SECTOR PUBLIC AFFAIRS CAMPAIGN OF THE YEAR (V)
Open to consultancies, individual organisations and trade bodies, the Public Sector Public Affairs Campaign of the Year will demonstrate achievement, innovation and the professional and successful implementation of a bespoke public sector public affairs campaign launched in the last two years. The nomination must show how the campaign achieved its desired policy objective within the initial timeframe.
The criteria for judging:
- Demonstrate success of a campaign against its initial objectives 50%
- Show innovation and professionalism in implementing the campaign 50%
PRIVATE SECTOR PUBLIC AFFAIRS CAMPAIGN OF THE YEAR (V)
Open to consultancies, individual organisations and trade bodies, the Private Sector Public Affairs Campaign of the Year will demonstrate achievement, innovation and the professional and successful implementation of a bespoke private sector public affairs campaign launched in the last two years. The nomination must show how the campaign achieved its desired policy objective within the initial timeframe.
The criteria for judging:
- Demonstrate success of a campaign against its initial objectives 50%
- Show innovation and professionalism in implementing the campaign 50%
PUBLIC AFFAIRS PERSONALITY OF THE YEAR (V)
Nominations must identify an individual who has worked in public affairs for at least five years and who achieved the following judging criteria:
- Leadership to his or her consultancy or public affairs/communications team 25%
- Influence in the development of the UK or European public affairs industry 25%
- Achievement of specific corporate or public affairs goals over a sustained period 25%
- A reputation as a major player in the public affairs industry 25%
TRADE BODY OF THE YEAR (V)
The Trade Body of the Year must be a trade, membership or professional association which has shown a level of achievement on behalf its members, measured against the needs of its members. It must show how its professional and innovative activity has directly achieved a measurable outcome for its members, be they individuals, charities or corporate bodies.
The criteria for judging:
- Demonstrated significant achievement on behalf of membership 60%
- Show evidence of professional public affairs: 20%
- Provide evidence of innovation and creativity in pursuit of its goals 20%
THINK-TANK OF THE YEAR (V)
Can be seen to have been influential with their reports and work during the year and to have become an influential voice for those working within the public affairs community.
The criteria for judging:
- Demonstrate how their work is a ‘must read’ for the public affairs community 50%
- Demonstrate how their work has influenced policy 50%
UK IN-HOUSE PROFESSIONAL OF THE YEAR (J)
Can demonstrate a high level of achievement in their work on behalf of their organisation within the UK. It is important to demonstrate how their activity has met or surpassed business ambitions and how this has been achieved and measured.

The UK Consultant of the Year must be able to demonstrate a high level of achievement in their work for clients. It is important to show how they have met or surpassed a range of clients’ ambitions. The UK Consultant of the Year will have made a significant contribution to the success of their company, be a team player and possess excellent written and oral communication skills. Moreover, the Consultant of the Year will be able to show dedication and commitment, and display how they have promoted the professional status of political consultancy.
