Ex-Gordon Brown aide takes news post after six years at Ogilvy.

Advertising and marketing services giant WPP has appointed former Number 10 adviser Iain Bundred as director of its government & public sector practice.

Bundred takes the new role after six years at Ogilvy PR which he joined in 2011 as global media relations director. He went on to become managing director of Ogilvy PR's EMEA operation.

He now holds a dual role, retaining his position with WP-owned Ogilvy on a 50% basis.

WPP's government & public sector practice was launched in 2012 as WPP Team Whitehall. It advises policymakers and public sector communication leaders on “strategy, innovation, capability development and global best practice”.

Bundred joined WPP this month. He reports to the practice's new global managing director Sean Howard, who was appointed last month and is based in the US.

In a statement on the new post, Bundred said: "At WPP we have an amazing set of agencies and experts who can help the Government Communications Service deliver on their priorities and I'm excited to help bring these two together so [the UK government] can access the best in breed comms thinking from here and overseas."

Bundred is a former Labour press officer and special adviser. He served as Gordon Brown’s political spokesman throughout the 2010 general election, having been appointed to the role in 2009.
