Newgate brings in bus route boss in latest bid to boost Tory firepower

George Robinson has worked in Tory press office and the research unit.

Newgate has signed up another Conservative lobbyist as an associate partner after previously hiring three ex-special advisers.

George Robinson joins the agency’s public affairs practice from bus route operator Abellio UK, where he was until recently head of policy and communications.

Robinson previously worked with Newgate head of public affairs Simon Gentry at MWW PR. Before that he worked in the Conservative press office and the Parliamentary Research Unit, which provides policy support to backbench Tory MPs.

Commenting on the appointment, Gentry said: "I'm absolutely delighted to be working with George again. He brings both an outstanding network of contacts and brilliant client handling skills. We are delighted that he chose Newgate.

“With George joining the team we're expertly placed to give clients deep insight into what is going on in Government and develop strategies to help them navigate the fast-moving political landscape".

Since the end of 2016, Newgate has made a concerted effort to boost its Tory firepower by hiring a trio of former special advisers. However one of the trio, Alastair Masser, left the agency last year to become director of communications at right wing think tank The Legatum Institute.
