Newgate bags corporate and public affairs account with Hovis
Famous British bread brand steps up its PR and lobbying efforts.
Hovis has turned to Newgate Communications to handle a major new account spanning corporate and financial PR, media relations and public affairs.
The well-known brand is stepping up its PR and public affairs activity as sales of sliced bread are continuing to plummet, leading to the formulation of low carbohydrate loafs.
Newgate was awarded the wide-ranging contract following a competitive pitch. Hovis did not previously have a retained public affairs agency but did have agencies in place for corporate and financial PR.
The account will be led by Newgate partners Clotilde Gros and Simon Gentry. Earlier this year, Newgate has moved to rebuild its lobbying team by bringing in three former Conservative special advisers: Sian Jones, Tomos Davies and Alastair Masser.
Hovis is well-known for its iconic 1973 ‘Boy on Bike’ advert which was directed by Ridley Scott and was filmed on Gold Hill in Dorset.
Premier Foods sold its controlling stake in Hovis to US investment firm The Gores Group in 2014, in an effort to rejuvenate the bakery brand.
