Nationwide kicks off major pitch process with call for 'creativity'

The building society has placed Teneo Blue Rubicon on alert.

Nationwide Building Society has fired the starting gun on a major pitch process as it looks for a new agency to handle public affairs and corporate communications.

Teneo Blue Rubicon currently lists Nationwide as a client on the APPC register, but the building society's newly-appointed director of external relations Tanya Joseph is believed to be keen to shake things up.

It is understood that Nationwide is keen to hire an agency with solid campaigning credentials and the capacity to be creative. The process is still in the early stages and a final shortlist is yet to be drawn up.

“We are looking for an agency to work seamlessly with our in house team across the communications piece (including public affairs), providing counsel, creativity, insight and tactical support,” Joseph told PAN.

Joseph, a former New Labour spin doctor and Grayling public affairs chief, joined Nationwide last month from Sport England.

At the time Nationwide said she would focus on developing the building society’s campaigning work. Joe Garner, CEO of Nationwide Building Society, said: "Her breadth of experience will support Nationwide’s ambition and contribute to our core purpose of ‘building society, nationwide’, engaging and collaborating with a wide range of policy makers and influencers."
